I Opposed the War in Viet Nam
I Oppose the War In Iraq
18 May 2008
I graduated from high school in January 1968. Initially it was a time of great joy. As the first person in my family to graduate high school I was elated. But something strange was going on. In 1968 we still had a draft. And it appeared during the last week before graduation the majority of senior males received draft notices. We were young and naive. Most importantly we knew nothing about a far away place called Viet Nam.
Just as quickly as the draft notices had arrived and the inductions began, the body bags came home. It was a strange time and it taugh me a lesson - - There are never any real winners in a war.
To this date no one can provide specific infomation as to why we went to Viet Nam and whether or not we won.
I recognize the attacks on September 11th were the worst this country has experienced. It forever sharttered our sense of safety and resulted in forever changing our lifestyles. Yet, the question must be asked, was Iraq responsible and were we wise to invade a soverign nation - regardless of its internal politics.
......to be continued
